Although personalized sound therapy can’t be used until a child is 2 years of age, our Kindermusik classes can start making a difference from birth.

Kindermusik Classes

Our Kindermusik classes are for children from birth – 5 years.

Rhythm is particularly grounding for children with autism and our classes include many activities that benefit children on the spectrum.

They include (but are not limited to):

• Steady beat activities – these help to internalize steady beat which is necessary for grounding, aligning internal rhythms and gain more control over the body.
• Active Listening Exercises – auditory challenges are a part of every child with autism and all suffer from deficits in some of the 12 auditory skills we need. Practicing these skills every week helps to develop increased competency in this area.
• Instrument Play – using simple instruments and tools found around the house (or you can purchase more traditional ones for home use) your child can make music on their terms
• Creative Movement – Some children love lots of movement, some like very little and our movement activities allow your child to participate how they are most comfortable.
• Rocking Activities – rocking is a really important activity for children with autism and I will show you a unique way to rock that is very calming to the brain to help you bring your child down when they are experiencing overwhelm.
• Language and Literacy – we have a story every lesson and vocal play to help develop language skills. Some children are completely non-verbal, but we have had non-verbal children learn to communicate through singing songs which accesses the brain in a different way than just speaking.
• Social interaction – our classes are live virtual classes with the children interacting with each other in real time. Because our classes are on zoom, your child gets to interact in an environment they are used to while still getting social interaction.
• Zoom Classes – new environments can be confronting for children with autism so having our classes on zoom not only means you can access them from wherever you live, but also that your child is in familiar surroundings.
• Go at Your Own Speed – our classes are built so you can work with your child at their pace. There is no competition, no expectations, just opportunities to grow
• Repetition and Extension – our classes work on repetition which is the key for children on the spectrum to learn. Using music as we do it lights up all areas of the brain to allow for more growth than without.
• Take Home Materials – each month your child will receive new online resources (music, book and videos) for you to use in the home. This is an essential toolkit that gives you, as a parent, the tools to continue the learning during the week. Playing the music helps your child to become more familiar with the sounds and helps progress the learning.
• Auditory Memory – the brain naturally looks for patterns in sound. By learning to group this together, there is then more of the brain available for further learning. Music assists in this process.
• Family Music Making – have more than 1 child, then make it a family affair. If other children are at school during the class, you have the tools to make family music sessions together when they come home.

All Classes Held Online

All of our classes are held on zoom which gives the added benefit of your child feeling comfortable. Your privacy is also ensured. If your child has a meltdown or becomes overwhelmed for any reason, simple turn off your camera, achieve a state of calm with your child and then pop your camera back on. During your break you can still hear what is happening in the class.
